The play tells of twin brothers, separated at birth, with one kept in a low-class family and the other is adopted into a wealthy family. The characters of Mrs Johnston and Mrs Lyons, the mothers, are total opposites.
I am writing this essay on how well Willy Russell explores the effect of the class system in Blood Brothers. The play is set in Liverpool in the 1980's and it is about a poor, single mother who has seven children and is heavily pregnant with what she thinks is one baby.
During Blood brothers there are a variety of relationships between different characters. These relationships are portrayed using many different techniques, which are subtle and clever. For example, the relationship between Mrs Johnstone and Mrs Lyons is shown to be quite distant, which is very realistic of the women’s different status at that time.
